Food for a Happier, Healthier Big Game Day Party

Super Bowl Party Football

We’ve all likely been to plenty of Super Bowl parties with the usual football fodder. Nachos, 7 layer bean dip, delivery pizza, chips, chips and more chips (and dip). It’s all Super delicious but not Super good for you. Super Bowl food overload can leave you feeling pretty horrible afterwards…even if your team wins.

For a healthier spread that family and friends will actually eat look no further! Kick It Like Mom has you covered. All these recipes are a healthier alternative to the regular offerings and I’ve proven all of them are easy to whip up so you have more time to socialize and watch the commercials 😉 (Okay, okay AND the game). Happy Game Day everyone!

Homemade MVP Margherita Pizza

Super Bowl Margherita Pizza

Peyton Manning and Papa John will be in your face temping you to order one of their pizzas. Resist the urge for this healthier, easy to make option! You can tailor it to suit picky family members plus it will hot out of the oven before Papa would even get to your house.

Prep Time: 10 min

Bake Time: Approx. 10 min (check instructions on crust packaging)

Total Time: 20 min

  • 1 ready-made pizza crust or dough
  • 1 jar pizza sauce
  • 1 package low-fat skim grated mozzarella
  • 2 cups fresh spinach finely chopped to hide in sauce (optional)
  • 2 roma tomatoes- diced or sliced
  • Leaves of fresh basil- to taste

Options: To keep the pizza as healthy as is possible, I look for crusts with lesser amounts of sodium and saturated fat and sauces with lesser amounts of sodium and sugar. Adding your favorite veggies on top is a great idea too!

  1. Preheat oven to 425F (check instructions on crust packaging)
  2. Stir chopped spinach into pizza sauce (if desired) and spoon sauce on top of crust
  3. Sprinkle on cheese & add toppings
  4. Bake 8-12 minutes until crust is baked and cheese is melted
